DENALI QUARTZITE

Between 1 and 1.2 billion years all existing land parts were united in a supercontinent called Rodhya (much older than Pangaea). The place that would later be located the state of Minas Gerais/Brazil, where Decolores found Denali quartzite, had been flooded by rising sea levels. Later the sea level again decreased, sediments brought by the rivers that flowing there are now deposited locally, invading more and more where the sea once existed.

As the years pass (millions of years), this large amount of sediment brought in gives rise to dune fields. These dunes were tens of meters high and long and consiste d mainly of quartz grains reworked and moved by the actions of the winds. This material then goes through metamorphism, giving robustness to Denali without losing the beauty given by the formed structures that were preserved in the material.
