Ijen Blue

The geological formation that gave rise to Ijen Blue takes us to the center west of Bahia from approximately 1.5 billion years ago. Geological events led to a depression of the terrain, originating an area of negative relief that was flooded, forming a small shallow sea. This shallow sea received both sediments characteristic of marine environments, with the action of waves and storms, as well as sediments carried by rivers and winds. The arid climate of the region contributed so that these shallow waters, rich in special elements, had a high evaporation rate, also generating the deposition of rich airs in these elements, along with quartz sediments.
With the movements of the earth's crust, this area of sediment accumulation begins to undergo metamorphism, quartz grains are entirely recrystallized, and from the remobilization of new mineral elements are originated, such as tourmaline, cyanite and ilmenite, responsible for the different colors found in Ijen Blue, which gives the material a surprising and exuberant beauty.
